Economism isn't about weighing benefits to me. Instead, it's more akin to economic reductionism and value judgments that pretend to be positive analysis.Samson Corwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10148822362930969284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7225373.post-44358081056783526962015-04-29T14:20:29.046-04:002015-04-29T14:20:29.046-04:00Perhaps Weber's distinction between instrument...Perhaps Weber's distinction between instrumental rationality and value rationality might help here.Samson Corwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10148822362930969284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7225373.post-75142340111248702862015-04-29T12:58:47.752-04:002015-04-29T12:58:47.752-04:00Gene I agree with you that in practice many Austro...Gene I agree with you that in practice many Austro-libertarians make the mistake you are describing here, but I don't think you are accurately describing Mises' position.

Mises is talking about human action. He explicitly rejects the homo economicus model. There was one really good debate between David Friedman and George H. Smith and video of it was posted here. The topic of discussion was peculiar, but probably relevant. I think Smith won hands down since Friedman was kind of left floundering.Samson Corwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10148822362930969284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7225373.post-509113265529234222015-04-28T15:20:43.361-04:002015-04-28T15:20:43.361-04:00I think libertarianism would have been much better...I think libertarianism would have been much better off if it had not been influenced by Mises.Samson Corwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10148822362930969284noreply@blogger.com
