Is It Bishop Berkeley, or Is It...

"Tell me one last thing," said Harry. "Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?"

"Of course it's happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"

-- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

(By the way, I read it Monday -- highly recommended.)

  1. Berkeley was no solipsist, though. His point, poorly expressed at times maybe, was that we as minds can only be aware of mental qualities, and that therefore the world was mental; not that we can only be aware of our own minds.

  2. I don't think Dumbledore is being a solipsist here, either.
