How to Design a Vibrant City


The above is a picture of Astana, Kazakhstan's new, rationalistically designed capital city. Just look at the life pouring across that central square!

  1. I like the sense of spaciousness, but that's about all the scene has going for it.

    Those yellow buildings are an atrocity against mankind.

  2. PPSH, "spaciousness" is a lovely thing to have at your country estate, but an awful thing in a city: see Jane Jacobs on this point.
