Danger Lurks in Park Slope

My wife was a little worried about my daughter.

"She's got to walk eight blocks alone, in the dark! That's dangerous."

"Where is she?" I asked.

"Park Slope."

"That is dangerous: at any moment, she could be co-opted into an anti-fracking demonstration, or enlisted in an underground raw-milk co-op!"

  1. I never really understood why cooperatives and voluntary organizations are attacked by conservatives or liberals and compared to dictatorships or what not.

    2. I've seen it around. Criticism of McDonald's workers striking for higher wages comes to mind. Over on a political forum that I belong to some users made retorts about the free market, poking fun at an OP's thread on the subject. I occasionally pick on uneasy anti-union rhetoric from free marketeers even though unions are part of the free market process.

    3. Oh yes, Sampson, absolutely: you are correct, it is around. I just wondered if you thought that's what I was doing. But it is clear you did not.

  2. I naturally agree with anyone worried about a young lady walking by herself at night. But, Park Slope is better than Crown Heights.
