Strange Sign at Arcade
I took my son to the mall to let him run around the coin operated "vehicles" (rocket ship, race car, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ride, etc.). One of them had a warning label that said:
DO NOT LEAVE CHILD UNATTENDED
ONE CHILD PER RIDE
MAXIMUM WEIGHT 50 KGs OR 100 LBS
Is anyone else questioning the universe because of that last line?

Because the conversion is off by 10% due to an affinity for round numbers, or because kg is a measure of mass, not weight? In any case, the universe seems fine here.
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about the rounding. So what is the rule? Can heavier European kids ride it than Americans? Or does the customer get to decide? Or does the management get to decide? E.g. your kid weighs 101 pounds and he is violating the rule, because the rule really is "100 lbs," and so saying the rule is "50 kg or 100 lbs" is still a true statement.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking they had found a new universal constant: The maximum possible weight is 100 pounds. (Another problem with the sign is that kilograms are not a measure of weight!)
