An Attorney Tells Us...

never talk to the police without an attorney present.

I have just started making my new video entitled "Never engage in transactions without hiring an economist to be at your side!"

I would say that the relationship between an enforcer and a suspect is quite different from that of two parties wishing to engage in voluntary exchange.

    1. Nice missing the point: the relationship between an attorney advising "Always use my services no matter what" and an economist advising "Always use my services no matter what" is exactly parallel.

Okay, perhaps I did misunderstand. If you're saying something along the lines of, "of course an attorney will say this, because it's in his own best interest", then I agree. But surely you'd agree that the cases themselves are far from equivalent in the fuller context.

Even the roles of the attorney vs the economist in each case are not equivalent, unless we assume that the economist has more specialized knowledge of the particular transaction than the parties to it. And if the economist did have more specialized knowledge of the particular transaction than the parties to it, would he still be serving the role of economist qua economist?

  3. If I were the police officer in the video, I would have replied, "Sorry, I have a policy of never talking to attorneys."
