I am currently reading The Master and His Emissary , which appears to be an excellent book. ("Appears" because I don't know the neuroscience literature well enough to say for sure, yet.) But then on page 186 I find: "Asking cognition, however, to give a perspective on the relationship between cognition and affect is like asking astronomer in the pre-Galilean geocentric world, whether, in his opinion, the sun moves round the earth of the earth around the sun. To ask a question alone would be enough to label one as mad." OK, this is garbage. First of all, it should be pre-Copernican, not pre-Galilean. But much worse is that people have seriously been considering heliocentrism for many centuries before Copernicus. Aristarchus had proposed a heliocentric model in the 4th-century BC. It had generally been considered wrong, but not "mad." (And wrong for scientific reasons: Why, for instance, did we not observe stellar parallax?) And when Copernicus propose
Geez Bob,
ReplyDeleteYou would think a empirists like yourself would be tracking all this stuff and making all kinds of exponential projections into the future as to when you will surpass the New York Times in vistors.
If you are cheap, though you might like it because it is complicated, Google analytics is free:
http://www.google.com/analytics/
The best out there is hitslink.com. It's around $20 per month but it tells you exactly who is coming to your site (including what governmant agencies are taking notice of what posts)
You will also get to see who visits your site for Gene's inspiring (wink) and insightful comments about LRC and Ron Paul.

ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean? That the paid version allows one to isolate people who are coming in via specific posts, rather than going to Crash Landing first?
I tried several times to register at Google Analytics and it kept saying "Invalid input."
ReplyDeleteI have stopped liking computers since around 1999.

ReplyDeleteYup.
The coolest vsit to my site came from eop.gov, "Executive Office of the President"
Bob, try asking Jeff Tucker at LvMI. He has learned all about this kind of stuff and has a couple of gurus working with him. If you need his address let me know.
ReplyDeleteHey Bob,
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you have Gene call Jeff Tucker for the tracking info.
I actually just corresponded with Jeff the other day in a perfectly cordial fashion.

ReplyDeleteGood, then ask him how to technologically improve your site, so that you get more visitors to your anti-Ron Paul rants.
Put it this way:
"Hey Jeff,
"Thanks for your cordial email. I really think there is a larger audience out there for my anti-Ron Paul stuff, what tracking system would you recommend so I can see who is reading my stuff and how can reach them.
"Thanks, much Jeff, there was no one as nice as you at L. Ron Hubbard."
