Liveblogging Madison and Jefferson

"Madison took his seat in March 1780. Snow had kept him in Virginia longer than planned, and the two-wheeled carriage, driven by his slave Billey Gardner, required twelve days, twice as long us usual, to reach Pennsylvania." -- p. 72

Imagine: Madison was traveling from northern Virginia to Philadelphia, and the ordinary trip took six days, while bad weather could slow you to twelve.

We now drive that trip in about three hours.

It's a little quicker, but not by much.
